35+Cartoons Showing The Struggle Of First Time Parents

By Louise P

Parenting is a blessing many people dream their whole lives of. As for Yehuda Adi Devir and his wife Maya, they got to make this dream a reality and welcomed a baby girl into this world.  Yehuda has become an icon on the internet for his over-the-top drawings of everyday life with his wife. Now he is back with another collection of equally fantastic pictures, showing what life with a new baby in the house feels like. The couple is based in Israel, but their comics, “One of Those Days,” have received global recognition. Let’s take a trip down memory lane and have a look at her final stages of pregnancy, as well as all the crazy new antics the couple get up to with their little bundle of joy!

Out of Control Belly

Isn’t pregnancy just beautiful? You are creating life and sharing in the greatest gift together. Not! Sometimes pregnancy feels awful, and you simply cannot wait for it to be over. By the look on Maya’s face, she is pretty tired of everyone waxing lyrical about being pregnant too.

Image Courtesy of One Of Those Days/ Yehuda Adi Devir

She is just about ready for it to be over! At least her hubby is trying to be a little supportive, but we would advise him to get rid of the smirk on his face, fast! There is nothing funny about feeling as big as a planet and being stripped of your last remaining shred of dignity and independence!

Boredom Buster

Ok, ok, pregnancy isn’t all bad. When you get a chance to sit back and relax, you can truly enjoy the miracle that is happening, even better when a couple gets to spend the last few days of peaceful bonding together before the baby comes.

Image Courtesy of One Of Those Days/ Yehuda Adi Devir

These two decided to get creative with a few pregnancy boredom busters. The classic game of “the leaning tower of random stuff.” It never gets old! She should maybe just think of wearing a helmet next time. When that comes crashing down, it’s not going to be pleasant!

The Big Day

No matter how prepared you may THINK you are, it will never be enough. When you hear those 5 small words, you know your life is about to become a whole lot more complicated in the hours to follow. Hold on tight!

Image Courtesy of One Of Those Days/ Yehuda Adi Devir

Dad is ready to pack everything and the kitchen sink to get to the hospital. Suddenly the “go-bag” just does not seem sufficient on its own. Perhaps he should follow a little of his own “don’t panic” advice; he seems pretty frantic to us!

Labor Day

Dad might be grinning from ear to ear now, but this is a day he will never live down. The amount of pain Maya must be in is too much even to understand, and she shouldn’t let him soon forget it!

Image Courtesy of One Of Those Days/ Yehuda Adi Devir

“That baby came out of my you-know-what, so you’d better do the dishes if you know what’s good for you!”. But she is giving Yehuda the biggest gift he could ever want, so we are sure this dotting husband will happily oblige.

Rocky Relationship

Yes, pregnancy is hard, but parenting is even harder. Throw in all the complex nuances of keeping an adult relationship alive on top of that, and you have a pretty tough situation. Things are bound to get rocky sometimes, as is the case with these two.

Image Courtesy of One Of Those Days/ Yehuda Adi Devir

But they have kept one thing in mind, communication. No matter how tough things get, they still tell each other that their love is unchanged and steadfast, and with that, they can overcome anything. Just keep going guys, you are doing great!

Post-Partum

Anyone who has ever brought kids into this world can tell you, getting a pre-baby body back is damn near impossible. But who says you have to! These two look perfectly happy just the way they are. Even if that means their jeans sit a bit more snug than usual.

Image Courtesy of One Of Those Days/ Yehuda Adi Devir

As long as you are healthy and happy, who cares what your body looks like! You also have different priorities now. Caring for an infant will always be more important than hitting the gym or scarfing down a salad.  We think they still look great, though!

Little Miracle

These two parents will adore anything their little angel does. Whether it be a yawn, laugh, or fart, it is all a miracle to them. But the way he depicts his precious baby makes us fall in love with her too!

Image Courtesy of One Of Those Days/ Yehuda Adi Devir

Just look at those perfect little toes and those puckered lips! O no, we have fallen for her cuteness trap! Look away! She is still in that beautiful stage before she starts having a will of her own, trying to crawl around and be her own biggest threat. Enjoy it while it lasts!

Doubt

We have said it before, and we will say it again, parenting is damn hard. There is an endless stream of self-doubt bombarding you from every angle on the daily. “Should I have done that? I’m not good enough. I don’t know this. Am I doing that wrong?”. The list goes on.

Image Courtesy of One Of Those Days/ Yehuda Adi Devir

But at the end of the day, it is up to you to support your partner and trust them to help you through the dark times. It is ok to be insecure but always share those feelings with your partner. You never know; they might be feeling the same way!

Proud Parents

Despite all the chaos, constant crying, poopy diapers, and sleepless nights, these two are loving parenthood. We have never seen Yehuda and Maya look prouder than in this picture. Can someone pass the tissues, please? We’re not crying, you’re crying!

Image Courtesy of One Of Those Days/ Yehuda Adi Devir

Yehuda depicted one of the most intimate moments they shared with their baby. They are surrounded by nothing but love, and nothing else matters at this moment. It is even beautiful how he captured Maya’s body in all its glory, just the way she is, perfect.

Teething Time

Breastfeeding is an incredible sacrifice a woman makes. Your breasts get sore, your body needs to be available at the drop of a hat, and not to mention all the leakage! TMI! So, hats off to Maya for committing to this daunting part of parenting.

Image Courtesy of One Of Those Days/ Yehuda Adi Devir

But then, teething starts, and everything gets a whole lot worse! Maya’s face is one of instant regret. Poor baby has no clue what is a boob and what is a binky; it’s all in the same when the teeth are bothering!

New Hobbies

Young couples usually partake in a very specific set of hobbies. They might include Netflix and chilling, tik-toking, or editing photos for the gram. Whatever floats your boat. But when there is a baby in the picture, this landscape changes pretty fast.

Image Courtesy of One Of Those Days/ Yehuda Adi Devir

“Netflix and chill” changes to “pajama drill and insomnia.” Tik-Tok quickly becomes a thing of the past. And as for posting idealistic images online? You learn to trade that in for actually living in the moment. These two are making the most of their baby’s childlike sense of wonder and enjoying every moment of their shadow puppet theater.

The Jab

Do you remember when your parents used to say, “this hurts me more than it hurts you”? Well, that was because you were about to get the spanking of your life but that saying sure reigns true in this picture.

Image Courtesy of One Of Those Days/ Yehuda Adi Devir

Poor Maya is more hysterical than the baby! No mama wants to hear her child cry from pain, but this is one you need to endure. She will be healthier in the long run! We can’t say the same for Yehuda’s hand, though…

Diaper Duty

Diaper duty is nobody’s friend. Those bad boys are explosive, messy, and downright traumatizing. But it is all part of parenthood! Poor Yehuda seems positively panic-stricken in this volatile moment between when the diaper comes off and the clean one goes on.

Image Courtesy of One Of Those Days/ Yehuda Adi Devir

Maya, on the other hand, is all smiles in the background. She knows it’s no walk in the park and seems to be enjoying every frantic moment her hubby is serving up. Don’t worry, Yehuda, it gets easier after about 200 doodoo diapers.

Down Girl

Whether you are a cat mama or a baby daddy, you know that there is no inch of privacy when it comes to bathroom time. The toilet is no longer a safe space, and there will always be someone or something staring you down when you are on the throne.

Image Courtesy of One Of Those Days/ Yehuda Adi Devir

Our man Yehuda is trying his best to get a smidge of privacy, but resistance is futile. Sorry to tell you this, but you will not have privacy for the next 18 years, possibly even beyond that. Learn to love it!

What is Sleep

Parenting is no walk in the park. Just ask any new parent, and they will tell you they no longer know what sleep means, and “rest” is not in their vocabulary. You always need to be “on” to care for an essentially helpless infant.

Image Courtesy of One Of Those Days/ Yehuda Adi Devir

One day you will forget about the sleepless nights, dirty diapers, and unbearable exhaustion. You will only remember the good times, laughs, and milestones. But for now, we will let you wallow in your tiredness for a little longer. Good luck!

Hands Full

Who would ever have thought that one tiny human needs so many things! Certainly not this dad. If it were up to him, there would be one diaper and one bottle of milk that should get her through the day, right?

Image Courtesy of One Of Those Days/ Yehuda Adi Devir

Wrong! Babies are never-ending pooping, screaming, eating machines. You need to be prepared for any and every scenario. And if that means dragging the whole house out with you on a walk, that’s just what daddy will have to do.

Pooped

Earlier on, we saw mommy and daddy being on the brink of collapse when the baby first came home. As time goes on, they learn to get a few seconds of shut-eye in between all the cleaning and general “keeping baby alive” duties.

Image Courtesy of One Of Those Days/ Yehuda Adi Devir

A personal favorite for Maya seems to be breastfeeding time. The baby is happy and quiet, so that only means one thing, a quick snooze! Yehuda also gets in on the action and doesn’t let an opportunity for some rest pass by.

Boo!

Millennial parents will do anything for the gram, and Halloween has become a firm favorite amongst parents. A time to dress up, look cute, and get some candy. What is not to love! These three opted for classic Halloween icons, Frankenstein, a skeleton, and a pumpkin.

Image Courtesy of One Of Those Days/ Yehuda Adi Devir

From the looks on the parents’ faces, they are even more excited than the baby! It is a chance for them to relive their childhoods again, and for the next couple of years, they can get in on the candy action!

Bath Time

Poor Maya looks exhausted, and she has only one thing on the brain. A nice hot shower! As for Yehuda and their baby, they have very different ideas of what is going to happen. Maya is having none of it, though.

Image Courtesy of One Of Those Days/ Yehuda Adi Devir

Their baby looks like she thinks it’s Christmas! “O boy, more food!”. Yehuda, on the other hand, also thinks it’s Christmas, but for very different reasons. We find it pretty endearing that he still finds her irresistible even though she looks a tad disheveled. Keep the romance alive, guys!

Birthday Girl

Once a year for the rest of her life, these two are going to spoil her rotten. It takes a couple of birthdays for parents to realize presents aren’t really that important either. The first birthday is usually the biggest, and also the biggest waste of money!

Image Courtesy of One Of Those Days/ Yehuda Adi Devir

She finds sucking on a shoe far more interesting than all the unopened gifts around her. Take it from us guys, save all the money, and splurge on a trip to Disney sometime in the future. All these knick-knacks are a waste now.

Bye-Bye Baby

Another huge milestone for parents is leaving their baby with a sitter or a grandparent for the first time. Some might find it much harder than others. One set of parents will say “woohoo! Freedom!” while others feel like it is the last time they will see their baby.

Image Courtesy of One Of Those Days/ Yehuda Adi Devir

Chin up, Maya. Before you know it, your bundle of joy will be back in your arms. Some alone time for the two of you is much needed, even if you spend the whole weekend catching up on some much-needed sleep.

Girl Power

Moms try to be the best role models for their little girls, no matter what. The feeling when you hear the words “I want to be just like you when I grow up” is something no amount of money can buy.

Image Courtesy of One Of Those Days/ Yehuda Adi Devir

Yehuda did a great job depicting how strong and fierce his lovely wife is. She is a true inspiration to him and their baby, and this cartoon is a tribute to her and all the other strong moms out there.

Vomit Comet

In the 80s, we had a little show called “America’s Funniest Home Videos.” Footage of babies throwing up on their parent’s faces was rare, but o boy, when they did surface, they had a whole nation laughing. These days it’s a different story.

Image Courtesy of One Of Those Days/ Yehuda Adi Devir

Now we constantly have our phones out, documenting every minute of our lives. Maya was armed and ready to take a video when this unfortunate incident happened. We are sure that Yehuda would rather have this video disappear into the abyss, though.

2020

And then lockdown happened… 2020 is a year we would all much rather forget. Unfortunately for new parents like these two, many couples had to spend the first few months of their baby’s lives cooped up inside. Those were crazy times indeed.

Image Courtesy of One Of Those Days/ Yehuda Adi Devir

There were no walks in the park. There were no kindergartens full of booger-ridden children. Birthday parties were a thing of the past, and so was shopping in person. These are the things we will tell our grandchildren about one day.

First Day

Once the pandemic had calmed down a bit, school was back in session. All those mommies and daddies who were praying for this day to come suddenly had to face the music and drop their babies off at daycare for the first time.

Image Courtesy of One Of Those Days/ Yehuda Adi Devir

Having your baby around 24/7 suddenly doesn’t seem like such a bad thing to Maya! It’s only the first few times that are hard, but once you start to see your little one interacting with all her new friends, it will be so worth it!

Not So Sweet Dreams

Many parents decide not to sleep-train their babies until much later. Sleep-training can be a nightmare, literally, if babies feel lonely in their own bed. A lonely baby is a crying baby, we always say. Ok no. we don’t, but we should, because it is true.

Image Courtesy of One Of Those Days/ Yehuda Adi Devir

The other alternative is sharing your bed with your infant. This could lead to considerably less crying but other forms of slumber disturbance. Babies love to starfish across the bed and leave you no space, or toss and kick in their sleep, equally as aggravating. Poor Yehuda is getting a rude awakening!

Battle Mode Initiated

Babies are essentially defenseless. Their biggest strength being cuteness. So, unless they are trying to defeat an intruder by melting their hearts, they don’t really stand a chance. That’s where parents come in—protectors of the infants, guardians of the helpless.

Image Courtesy of One Of Those Days/ Yehuda Adi Devir

Maya and Yehuda are ready for war, whatever comes their way. In this case, it is a tiny little bug, but they take their duties very seriously. Inadvertently they are poisoning the child with bug spray, but that is an argument for another day.

Beauty School Dropout

We can already see this little one is going to grow up to be a daddy’s girl. Luckily, we don’t see any problem with that! The bond between father and daughter is truly special, and when manifested from early on, it is virtually indestructible.

Image Courtesy of One Of Those Days/ Yehuda Adi Devir

Yehuda might be having some trouble mastering the finesse of tying baby’s hair, but he is not letting his burly hands stop him from trying! Maya is looking pretty amused by the whole situation, proud nonetheless. Keep up the good work, Dad!

3rd Wheel

There is something to be said for parents who are able to keep the romance alive, despite the presence of a pooping-drooling-screaming-infant. These two know what’s up. Get your smooch on no matter what. We applaud you guys for trying!

Image Courtesy of One Of Those Days/ Yehuda Adi Devir

When a baby comes into play, couples can easily forget to make time for themselves. You are always tired, feeling not so sexy, and probably have throw-up on your shirt. But take a page from these two’s book, something as simple as a kiss might be all you need.

Automatic Assault Baby

After surviving parenthood, these two will pretty much be ready for war. They can survive torture, they can serve and protect, and now they also know how to dodge a bullet. Or flying baby food in this case. Lieutenant Dad reporting for duty!

Image Courtesy of One Of Those Days/ Yehuda Adi Devir

Eating must be such a strange concept for babies. After months of suckling on fluids, suddenly, they have to put in some effort to ingest sustenance. No, thank you, ma’am! Let the spitting wars commence. A firm “non” will do too, you know. No need to spit about it!

Silence!

Parents will tell you, when a baby is finally asleep, they will move mountains to keep it that way! Don’t even BREATHE in the baby’s direction without suffering the consequences. The culprit, in this case, is a leaky pipe—the sound of Chinese water torture.

Image Courtesy of One Of Those Days/ Yehuda Adi Devir

The irony is, parents usually make more noise trying to keep everything around them quiet! Babies should learn to live with some sounds around them. Dead silence is equally unnatural. Later in life, your child will have trouble sleeping when there is as much as a light breeze outside, so rather teach them to deal with the noise now.

Insta-baby

Parenting in the 21st century looks a whole lot different than one or two generations ago. Even Yehuda and Maya should understand what it feels like to grow up in a time before cellphones or the internet. The “good old days,” as we like to call them.

Image Courtesy of One Of Those Days/ Yehuda Adi Devir

These days every move a baby makes is captured and probably shared online too. In the case of the Devir’s, we don’t mind it as much because we are treated to these hilarious and adorable cartoons. So, could you keep ‘em coming, guys?

Chew Toy

Teething babies are another kind of crazy. An endless cycle of chewing, drooling and screaming. Good luck to any parent entering this tumultuous phase! Maya is feeling the full force of the little one’s slobbery affection in this classic cartoon.

Image Courtesy of One Of Those Days/ Yehuda Adi Devir

To top it all off, babies have inexplicably sharp nails and vice-like grip. A lethal combination. And it seems like Yehuda has no idea. His thick manly skin seems to be much stronger than poor Maya’s porcelain exterior. Be strong, girl!

Achievement Unlocked

A biological clock is another corporate construct, just like engagement rings or valentine’s day. There is an unnecessary amount of pressure on women to conceive by a certain age when in reality, a few years into your thirties hardly makes you geriatric.

Image Courtesy of One Of Those Days/ Yehuda Adi Devir

Maya is clearly beyond elated that she managed to have a child by 30, and that might have been a personal goal for her. Honestly, her baby is unbelievably cute, and she has really hit the husband jackpot; so well done to her!

K.O.

Through Yehuda’s cartoons, we can often see that these two are on the verge of complete collapse. They are overwhelmed by tiredness, and that is something many parents can relate to. Our sincere condolences go out to you and your sleep life.

Image Courtesy of One Of Those Days/ Yehuda Adi Devir

It is kind of cute how they are always in such a state together, though. It’s never just one or the other; these two stand by each other through thick and thin. They are really a supportive and balanced duo!

Black Friday

Aaaaa consumerism, don’t you just love it! We will be the first to admit we are suckers for a good Black Friday deal, so we totally get you, Maya. You buy that urn, girl! We shudder to think what our faces would look like if we came across a good deal like this.

Image Courtesy of One Of Those Days/ Yehuda Adi Devir

Yehuda has learned to accept this reality and let Maya get her way by the looks of it. Resistance is futile when it comes to bargain shopping! It also looks like the little one is training to be a shopaholic too. Watch out, guys!

The New Babies

Different strokes for different folks, as they say! On the one hand, you have a tech-man in total awe of his new computer baby. Arguably cheaper than the cost of a real baby, much quieter, much smarter, and significantly less messy.

Image Courtesy of One Of Those Days/ Yehuda Adi Devir

Then we have broody-momma. She will coochie-coo and tickle-tickle till the cows come home! She simply cannot take her eyes off her perfect little angel. And we don’t blame her! Just look at that face! She is perfect in every way.

Bath Wars

It is astonishing how the simplest or most mundane tasks become a full-blown war when a baby becomes involved. Eating leads to food fights, sleeping is a screaming game, and bath time looks like a scene from Sharknado! Take cover!

Image Courtesy of One Of Those Days/ Yehuda Adi Devir

We are still scratching our heads as to why we used to put up such a fuss. We would give ANYTHING to take forced naps. Having someone cook for you and feed you sounds like our idea of a night in! And having someone give you a bath? Now you’re talking!
